Fox’s Hilton on ‘baffling complacency’ of Trump campaign: ‘Wake up!’
Fox News host Steve Hilton on Sunday chastised the Trump campaign, saying its “baffling complacency” is making a Biden presidency more and more likely.
Hilton, who once served as an adviser to former British Prime Minister David Cameron, said President Trump and his campaign have fallen short on laying out a vision for what a possible second term would look like.
“With [Joe] Biden and the Democrats, there would be even more bogus bureaucracy and shutdown stupidity,” he said in his opening monologue on “The Next Revolution With Steve Hilton.”
“And that terrifying prospect gets closer every day because of the baffling complacency of the Trump campaign. Where’s the energy? Where are the ideas? Where’s the hope for the future?”
The remarks come as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee leads Trump nationally by 7.4 percentage points in the RealClearPolitics index of polls. Biden led Trump by 10.1 points on June 24.
With the election just three months away, Trump is also trailing in key swing states that he captured in 2016, including Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Florida.
Hilton said the Trump campaign appears “to be sleepwalking into a Biden presidency and the total calamity of a Democratic takeover — House, Senate, White House and the lot.”
“Wake up!” he added. “We need to see a major Trump policy announcement or policy speech every week between now and November. Nothing else will do. Get on with it, or the country is sunk on coronavirus and everything else.”
