Hasbro pulls Trolls doll over complaints of inappropriate button
The toy company Hasbro is pulling a “Trolls World Tour” doll from stores after an online petition complained it “is conditioning our children to think pedophilia is ok.”
“This was not intentional and we are happy to provide consumers with a replacement Poppy doll of similar value through our consumer care team,” a Hasbro spokesperson told The Providence Journal. “We are in the process of removing the item for purchase.”
The doll has a button on its underside that makes a giggling and gasping sounds when seated. Petition-signers complained it’s inappropriate for children.
“This is not okay for a child’s toy! This toy needs to be removed from our stores,” Jessica McManis wrote on the Change.org petition that currently has more than 300,000 signatures. “What will this toy make our innocent, impressionable children think? That it’s fun when someone touches your private area?”
The petition is addressed to “decision maker” stores including Target, Walmart and Amazon.
The toy, called the “Trolls World Tour Giggle and Sing Poppy” according to the Associated Press, is inspired by the protagonist of the animated movie “Trolls World Tour.”
Is @Hasbro normalizing grooming & facilitating child abuse?
