McEnany says MAGA is synonymous ‘with Blue Lives Matter’
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Wednesday that the president’s 2016 “Make American Great Again” slogan, shortened to “MAGA,” is at this point “pretty much” synonymous with “Blue Lives Matter,” a slogan used by pro-police demonstrators and supporters.
During a daily press briefing, McEnany responded to questions about the president calling for a boycott of Goodyear tires after an image circulated online of a flyer explaining the company’s policy banning political speech — including “MAGA” hats.
“The reason he called for the boycott is over ‘MAGA” — ‘MAGA’ is pretty much syn—unanimous with ‘Blue Lives Matter,'” the White House official said, apparently using “unanimous” in place of “synonymous” by mistake.
“What was not allowed was Blue Lives Matter. What was not allowed was MAGA hats. What was clearly targeted was a certain ideology,” she added of the tire and auto service chain’s policy.
Trump has regularly sought to align himself with law enforcement, including following this year’s protests over police brutality and racial injustice.
The president made headlines earlier in the day with his tweet targeting Goodyear.
“Don’t buy GOODYEAR TIRES – They announced a BAN ON MAGA HATS. Get better tires for far less!” the president tweeted Wednesday morning.

Just last month, Trump, a critic of “cancel culture,” mocked those on the left who called for a boycott of Goya Foods after the chain’s CEO praised him at a White House event.
Numerous companies prohibit store employees from displaying political messages at work or while on the clock, though some chains such as Starbucks and Goodyear have made exceptions for items promoting civil rights issues such as Black Lives Matter or LGBTQ equality.
