Obama, McChrystal meet in Copenhagen

After making his pitch to the International Olympic Committee (IOC),
President Barack Obama met with the top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan
while still on the ground in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The president met with Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who has called for more troops in Afghanistan, aboard Air Force One shortly before Obama departed Denmark to return to the U.S.

{mosads}White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said McChrystal was in London and flew to Copenhangen to meet with the president.

The meeting lasted about 25 minutes in the president’s forward cabin aboard the plane, and it was the first time the two men had met in person since mid-May when McChrystal was in the Oval Office.

“”The president wanted to take the opportunity to get together with Gen. McChyrstal,” Gibbs said.

Members of Congress have increased their calls for McChrystal to return to Washington to testify about the strategy in Afghanistan and Pakistan as Republicans have accused Obama of dragging his feet on providing additional resources to the region.

The White House has counseled patience, insisting that Obama wants to put a strategy in place before committing more troops.

Obama held his second meeting with his highest military advisers on Wednesday for three hours. They are scheduled to meet again twice next week.

Obama was expected to be back at the White House by mid-afternoon.
