Giuliani’s son, a White House staffer, tests positive for coronavirus

Andrew Giuliani, the son of the president’s personal attorney and a staffer at the White House, tested positive for coronavirus, he tweeted Friday.

“I am experiencing mild symptoms, and am following all appropriate protocols, including being in quarantine and conducting contact tracing,” Giuliani tweeted.

Giuliani, a special assistant to the president, is the latest White House staffer to test positive for the highly contagious virus in recent weeks. He has worked as a liaison to sports leagues and had a prominent role promoting Trump’s support of bringing back college football this fall.

The White House has faced multiple outbreaks during the pandemic, which President Trump has repeatedly downplayed. Those who have tested positive over the last six weeks include the president, the first lady, the press secretary, the chiefs of staff to both the president and the vice president and senior advisers Stephen Miller and Hope Hicks.

Giuliani is also the son of Rudy Giuliani, who is working as Trump’s lead attorney. Rudy Giuliani has been exposed to numerous people who later tested positive for coronavirus, including former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), Corey Lewandowski and Trump himself.

A spokesperson for Giuliani did not immediately respond to a request for comment about whether the former New York City mayor will be quarantining.

Rudy Giuliani has once again taken center stage as he leads the legal effort to try to overturn the result of the presidential election, which ended with Joe Biden defeating Trump.

Giuliani held a combative press conference on Thursday in which he made baseless and at times conspiratorial claims alleging the election was stolen from Trump. He referenced the film “My Cousin Vinny” at one point, and black streaks ran down his face from his hair as he spoke.

The press conference was held indoors in a cramped space. Neither Giuliani nor any of the attorneys standing near him wore masks.
