Almost 1 million Crock-Pots sold through Amazon, Target, Walmart recalled after scores of people burned

Almost 1 million Crock-Pots sold through Amazon, Target and Walmart were recalled on Tuesday after scores of people reported burn injuries. 

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued the recall of the Crock-Pots multi-cookers sold by Sunbeam Products two days before Thanksgiving, citing burn risks. The recall affects 914,430 Crock-Pots in the U.S. and another 28,330 in Canada. 

The CPSC warned that the multi-cooker “can pressurize when the lid is not fully locked” which can “cause the lid to suddenly detach while the product is in use, posing burn risks to consumers from hot food and liquids ejected from the product.”

Sunbeam Products said it received 119 reports of lid detachments leading to 99 burn injuries, “ranging in severity from first-degree to third-degree burns.”

The commission advised customers to “immediately stop” using the Crock-Pot’s pressure cooker mode but indicated the product could still be used for slow cooking and sauteing if the user ensures the lid is secured to its locked position. 

Crock-Pot multi-cooker owners need to contact Crock-Pot to receive a free replacement lid 

The Crock-Pots were manufactured between July 1, 2017, and Oct. 1, 2018, and have the date codes K196JN through K365JN and L001JN through L273JN engraved on the bottom of the base.
