Funky Academic: GameStop stock surge is form of ‘civil disobedience’

Irami Osei-Frimpong, the “Funky Academic,” said on Monday that the GameStop stock surge caused by the Reddit group “WallStreetBets” was a form of “civil disobedience.”

“We saw civil disobedience,” Osei-Frimpong while appearing on Hill.TV’s “Rising,” describing the efforts by traders to buy up GameStop and increase its value.

“The question is whether or not stock speculation itself is an institution of civil freedom,” added Osei-Frimpong. “Where people can get together and gather and put deals together and exercise what they want to do as a people, as a group that self selects itself to do what they want to do.”
