Tampa, Kansas City mayors team up to offer tips for safely watching Super Bowl
Tampa, Fla., Mayor Jane Castor (D) and Kansas City, Mo., Mayor Quinton Lucas (D) have teamed up to offer tips for fans to safely watch the Super Bowl on Sunday.
The mayors, whose rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs are competing in Super Bowl LV, appeared in a short video posted to Twitter this week encouraging viewers to take certain precautions.
“Mayor @QuintonLucasKC & I may disagree on who is winning the Lombardi Trophy, but we’re on the same team when it comes to COVID-19 safety,” Castor tweeted.
The pair urged fans to watch the game in small groups, order takeout and wear masks.

“We’re still facing the COVID-19 pandemic as a community and as a country,” Lucas said in the video.
“So when we celebrate the big game, let’s take precautions to limit the spread of COVID-19 so we don’t risk the lives of others,” Castor added.
Health officials and others have issued similar guidance this week intended to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during one of the biggest sporting events of the year.
Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious diseases expert and an adviser to the White House COVID-19 response team, encouraged fans to avoid attending Super Bowl parties this year.
“As much fun as it is to get together in a big Super Bowl party, now is not the time to do that,” Fauci said.
The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also urged fans to watch virtually or with members of their immediate household.
