The Future of Education

The Future of Education

Session One

Session Two:

Education has undergone a transformation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Forced to move beyond the four walls of the classroom, education went virtual on a large scale. As schools begin to reopen, questions about student preparedness and how to ensure healthy and safe environments abound. This is a tumultuous time, but as we move forward, it is worth thinking about the future of education, what technology could bring us, and how to build learning environments in which all students can reach their full potential.

What challenges are teachers, parents, and students facing? How can we leverage technology to help students succeed? What does equity and inclusion in education look like and how do we bring that ideal picture closer to reality? What is possible in education and is there a world where all learners feel comfortable, confident, and ready to succeed?

The Hill will hold a virtual summit to explore where we are and where we need to go in education, convening state and federal policymakers, equity and inclusion advocates, and EdTech experts to visualize the future of education.

The Freedom for All to Thrive

Every person in America deserves the freedom to thrive, fueled by opportunity, justice and a voice in our democracy. That requires not only addressing the multiple crises affecting our country—COVID-19, the economic fallout and inequity, racial injustice, the climate crisis and threats to our democracy—but also creating the just and equitable conditions for economic and educational opportunity for all. The AFT will fight for that freedom to thrive for our members, our families and our communities—by caring, fighting, showing up, teaching and voting.

Connectivity for remote education will depend on reliable broadband networks. Nokia created a Country Broadband Health Index that monitors networks. It shows 13%+ population of North America including students had no broadband during COVID.

Nokia is bringing broadband where it matters. In rural California, Nokia along with Cal.net and ExteNet Systems enabled access to high-speed internet for education and more. Nokia is combining fiber and 5G that ensures communities to get Gigabit broadband – an essential for most remote learning technologies. Learn more at: nokia.com/opentomore.
