Ex-girlfriend of Capitol rioter turned him in after he texted her pictures
The ex-girlfriend of a Pennsylvania man who allegedly stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 turned him in after he sent her pictures and videos of him breaking into the building.
Richard Michetti texted his ex-girlfriend, who is not named in the court document, on his way to Washington, D.C., on Jan. 5 and during the riot the next day.
“It’s going down here we stormed the building they held us back with spray and teargas and paintballs,” Michetti texted his ex-girlfriend during the riot.
Along with texts, Michetti sent two videos that showed him outside the Capitol and inside the building, according to the court document.
The ex-girlfriend contacted authorities on Jan. 7 with the evidence and she helped them identify Michetti in several photos during the riot.
Michetti is being charged with knowingly entering a restricted building, violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, and obstruction of Congress.
He texted his ex-girlfriend saying that she was a “moron” for not believing the election was stolen.
“The vote was fraud and trump won but they won’t audit the votes. We are patriots we are not revolutionaries the other side is revolutionaries they want to destroy this country and they say it openly,” Michetti said, referring to election conspiracy theories former President Trump pushed before the riot.
Michetti could face 20 years in jail if convicted and will appear in court again on Monday, The Morning Call reported.
There have been more than 200 arrests since the Capitol riot. Authorities are still investigating the events of that day, which injured many and left five dead.
