Jill Biden to appear in ‘Sesame Street’ documentary

Jill Biden will be among the big names celebrating the more than half a century of “Sesame Street” as part of a forthcoming documentary on the classic children’s TV show.

The first lady, a lifelong educator, is one of the “special guests” who will appear on “Sesame Street: 50 Years of Sunny Days,” ABC announced Wednesday.

The April 26 documentary airing on the network “highlights the more than 50-year impact of this iconic show and the nonprofit behind it, Sesame Workshop,” according to ABC.

Biden joins a star-studded lineup poised to party with Big Bird and Elmo, including Angelina Jolie, John Oliver, Rosie Perez, White House coronavirus task force member Anthony Fauci, CNN’s Sanjay Gupta, Whoopi Goldberg, John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, Usher, Gloria Estefan, W. Kamua Bell, Questlove, Olivia Munn, Lucy Liu and Christopher Jackson.

Stevie Wonder is also slated to debut a new version of the “Sesame Street” theme song, “Sunny Days,” as part of the show.

The first episode of “Sesame Street” premiered in 1969.

The two-hour documentary, produced by Time Studios, will also include “never-before-seen footage of an episode produced in 1992 focusing on the topic of divorce and around the experience of Mr. Snuffleupagus and his family,” a news release said.

The TV special “will examine the decision to ultimately not air the episode, marking the only time in the show’s history such a decision was made.”
