Police ID suspect in Austin shooting that killed three

Authorities in Austin, Texas, have identified a suspect in a shooting at an apartment building that left three people dead.

Police say they are looking for 41-year-old Nicholas Broderick, a former deputy with the Travis County Sheriff’s office, interim Austin Police Chief Joe Chacon said, according to the Austin American-Statesman.

The shelter in place order that was enforced near the apartment complex where the shooting took place has been lifted, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

According to the Austin American-Statesman, authorities have started to move away from the Great Hills Trail area where the shooting took place, because efforts are shifting towards a fugitive search to find Broderick.

Broderick, according to Chacon, was last seen wearing a gray hoodie, sunglasses and a baseball cap.

The Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services said police and paramedics responded to an active shooter situation around 11:42 a.m. A reverse 911 call was then dispatched to residents in the area to inform them of the shooting, and encourage them to shelter in place, according to the Austin American-Statesman.

Three adults were declared dead at the scene, officials said. According to Chacon, the victims are two women and a man.

Around 2 p.m. the Austin Police Department (APD) said what they initially believed to be a possible active shooter situation now appears to have been an isolated domestic event. The police department said there is currently no threat to the public; however, the manhunt for the shooter is still ongoing.
