NYPD investigating ‘horrific’ attack on Asian man
The New York Police Department (NYPD) is investigating a “horrific” attack on an Asian man that happened in Manhattan on Friday night.
The NYPD said its hate crimes unit is helping lead the investigation into the attack, which took place in East Harlem. A motive for the attack has not been released.
Video shared by police shows the 61-year-old man being kicked in the head multiple times before the attacker runs away.

The victim told police when he was in the hospital that he was attacked unprovoked from behind. The man was found unconscious by a bus driver who called the police, ABC7 reported.
The NYPD said that the 61-year-old is in stable but critical condition.
While the motive for the attack is unclear, it comes amid a series of attacks against Asian Americans in recent months, including several in New York.
The Senate this week overwhelmingly passed legislation aimed at combating the rise in violence against Asian Americans.
