Rapper YFN Lucci charged in gang-related RICO indictment

Rapper YFN Lucci is one of a dozen people charged in an indictment last week that targeted individuals who are allegedly members of the Bloods gang.

A grand jury in Fulton County, Ga., unveiled the 105-count indictment on Friday that includes racketeering, aggravated assault, murder, gun, armed robbery, property damage, theft and gang-related charges, according to The Associated Press.

The charging documents claim that the 12 defendants are associated with subgroups of the national Bloods gang, the AP reported.

The indictment alleges that the dozen individuals had connections to and relationships with one another and that they committed an array of crimes to protect and strengthen the gang’s reputation and increase and preserve control of a territory, the wire service reported.

The indictment was the result of a six-month investigation, Atlanta Police Deputy Chief Charles Hampton said at a news conference, according to the AP.

Fulton County District Attorney Dani Willis told WSB-TV 2 Atlanta that the indictment is “unprecedented.”

Lucci, whose full name is Rayshawn Bennett, was charged with racketeering, violating the state’s anti-gang law, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, the AP reported.

In January, Atlanta police brought murder charges against Lucci for allegedly being the driver in a fatal gang-related drive-by shooting in December, the AP reported at the time. One man was killed, and another was wounded.

The charges brought against Lucci in last week’s indictment, the AP noted, are based on the December occurrence.

Drew Findling, Lucci’s lawyer, told WSB-TV 2 Atlanta that his client is not guilty of the charges brought against him.

“He’s not a gang member. What he is is an internationally recognized musical artist that is a triple platinum winner, that has performed all over the United States and all over the world,” Findling said.
