Mets pitcher irked by announcer comments: ‘Racist undertones

New York Mets pitcher Marcus Stroman is upset with former Major League Baseball player and manager Bob Brenly, saying comments made by the commentator about his head covering had “racist undertones.”

During Tuesday’s telecast of the contest between the Mets and the Arizona Diamondbacks, Stroman was pitching when Brenly, who is a color analyst for Bally Sports Arizona, made a comment about the head covering Stroman was wearing under his ball cap, joking that the late Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver used to wear one.

“Pretty sure that’s the same do-rag that Tom Seaver used to wear when he pitched for the Mets,” Brenly said during the telecast.

Stroman took to Twitter after the game to express his displeasure with the analyst’s comments, calling them racist.

Stroman, who has been vocal about social justice in America, retweeted a series of tweets from Twitter users in support of him and calling out Brenly, who won a World Series as a manager for Arizona in 2001, over the comments.
