Three dead including child in shooting at Florida Publix, sheriff says

Three people are dead including a child following a shooting inside a Publix grocery store in Royal Palm Beach, Fla., with the shooter among those dead, according to police.

The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office said in a tweet that deputies arriving at the scene found three individuals with gunshot wounds: an adult male, an adult female and a child.

Therese Barbera, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, told The Hill that “detectives are in the beginning stages of determining what led up to the shooting.”

The shooting took place at the Publix store located at Royal Palm Beach Boulevard and Okeechobee Boulevard, according to company spokesperson Maria Brous.

“Our thoughts are with those who are impacted by this tragedy. We are cooperating with the local law enforcement,” Brous said in a statement to The Hill.

NBC News reported that the shooting occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m. The sheriff’s office said the incident was not an active shooter situation.

Palm Beach County Commissioner Melissa McKinlay said in Twitter post that a toddler was killed in the shooting, while calling for an “honest conversation” on to how to prevent similar violence.
