Philadelphia shooting leaves 2 dead, injures toddler
A shooting in Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon resulted in the death of two men and injures to a toddler, according to police.
The two men, both 23 years old, were shot multiple times during the incident, which took place around 2:30 p.m. A 3-year-old was also harmed during the shooting.
The two male victims died shortly after being taken to the hospital, but the toddler, who was shot three times in the leg, remains in stable condition.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said no arrests have been made in connection with the attack. Any possible motive has not yet been clear.
In a statement to The Hill, Outlaw called the event “tragic.”
“It is especially disturbing and sickening when the victims are among our most vulnerable,” Outlaw added.
She noted the attack’s impact on the day, as Juneteenth celebrations and commemorative events were across the U.S.
President Biden signed a law on Thursday making Juneteenth a federal holiday.
“We again found ourselves lamenting as an otherwise beautiful afternoon had been sullied with gun violence,” Outlaw said.
Outlaw pledged that local law enforcement will “work tirelessly” to bring justice to the victims.
The Philadelphia Police did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.
