CNN+ expected to add ‘NBC Nightly News’ executive producer: report
CNN has reportedly hired a top producer away from NBC News as it looks to beef up its staffing ahead of the launch of a streaming service next year.
Jenn Suozzo, a longtime journalist and producer at NBC who serves as the executive producer of “NBC Nightly News,” will join CNN+ in a high-level producing role, Variety reported Wednesday.
NBC News President Noah Oppenheim told staffers in a memo that Suozzo was ready to “pursue a new venture outside the company,” the outlet reported.
CNN announced last month the launch of a subscription-based service with the goal of creating digital streaming content for an online audience, beginning in 2022.
As part of the announcement, the network said it planned to add eight to 12 hours of live, daily programming offering “topical deep dives and lifestyle content from some of CNN’s most prominent talent, as well as several new faces.”
On Tuesday, CNN officially announced it had hired NBC News’s Kasie Hunt after she worked as a Capitol Hill correspondent, fill-in anchor, analyst and host. Hunt will host a political show on the network’s new streaming channel.
The pair of high-profile hires come as each of the three major cable news networks have pledged to pour more time and resources into streaming platforms, with more Americans cutting cable and opting to consume news online and through social media.
NBC News recently announced it was planning to hire hundreds of additional employees and add several hours of additional shows as it works to expand streaming services of its own.
