COVID-19 testing site reopens at Dodger Stadium

Dodgers Stadium reopened its COVID-19 testing site this week amid an increase in demand in the Southern California area, CW affiliate KTLA reported.

The site is run by Curative and offers drive-through PCR testing seven days a week, according to the news outlet.

Curative spokesman Pasquale Gianni said the “site is relaunching due to increase demand in testing coupled with an increase in positivity across the state of California.”

When the site first opened in May of 2020, it was the largest in the nation, testing thousands of citizens for free daily, according to KTLA. 

Curative said that as of Wednesday, Dodgers Stadium now has the capacity to offer 500 COVID-19 tests daily 

“It has the capacity to be the largest testing site once more, but we’re keeping an eye on demand and positivity as we scale up,” Gianni said.

Since May 2020, more than 1 million Los Angeles residents were tested at the baseball stadium. 

Dodgers stadium slowly transitioned to a mass vaccination site in January before closing in May due to a slowdown in the number of people wanting the vaccine, KTLA reported. 

The recent increased demand for virus testing is due to the new state mandates that require unvaccinated residents to undergo testing for large events, workplaces and educational settings. 

Los Angeles County Health Director Barbara Ferrer said in a media briefing last week the county is experiencing a possible uptick in COVID-19 transmission.
