Kia recalls 410,000 vehicles over airbag defects

Kia is recalling 410,000 vehicles because the airbags are defective and might not deploy in the event of a crash.

In documents shared with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Kia said it is recalling certain 2017-2019 Sedona, Soul, Soul EV, 2017-2018 Forte, and 2017 Forte Koup vehicles.

“The Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) cover may contact a memory chip on the printed circuit board and damage the electrical circuit. Circuit damage may result in deactivated air bags that will not deploy in a crash,” the notice said.

The company has received 13 customer complaints and 947 warrant claims related to the issue, according to The Associated Press.

Kia dealers will inspect the vehicles and update software or replace it. Owners will be notified by mail starting March 21.
