Lawmakers seek mental health coverage for soldiers
The lawmakers cited a recent NPR and ProPublica series that gave examples of care providers who were informed they would not be reimbursed for cognitive rehabilitation for soldiers because Tricare, the military’s health insurance program, would not cover it.
Without a waiver “applicable only under very unusual and limited circumstances,” most soldiers cannot receive cognitive rehabilitation, even though many Medicaid programs and most private insurers cover the service, the lawmakers wrote. They also asked to meet with Defense Department officials to discuss expanding mental health coverage.
