Senate session moved due to earthquake
Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) will open Tuesday’s pro-forma session of the Senate at the Postal Square Building because of safety issues at the Capitol following a 5.9-magnitude earthquake.
Republicans have demanded that Senate Democrats hold periodic pro-forma sessions of the upper chamber to block President Obama from making recess appointments.
Senators from nearby states, usually Virginia and Maryland, oversee the pro-forma sessions, which typically last a few minutes.
