Gingrich endorses Rep. Ralph Hall
Former Speaker Newt Gingrich is the latest conservative to rally to 91-year-old Rep. Ralph Hall’s (R-Texas) side as he faces a tough runoff election in less than two weeks.
Gingrich joins former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) in backing Hall this week as he competes with former U.S. Attorney John Ratcliffe (R).
{mosads}Ratcliffe has the backing of the Senate Conservatives Fund and the Club for Growth, and he has tried to paint the veteran lawmaker as insufficiently conservative on economic issues.
But with endorsements from Gingrich, Paul, former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark.), the National Right to Life, Tea Party Nation and the National Rifle Association, the congressman is trying to combat those charges.
“Congressman Ralph Hall is a proven conservative voice for the people of his district,” Gingrich said in a statement released by Hall’s campaign. “We need Ralph Hall in Washington to fight for a strong economy that creates jobs and gives businesses confidence in America’s future. It’s been my honor to know Ralph for many years, and I assure you his steadfast commitment to making our borders safe, fighting against government’s overreach and standing up for conservative values is second to none.”
