Ballot Box

Clinton: Republicans may ‘skate’ in Nov.

Bill Clinton acknowledged Sunday morning at a campaign event that Republicans appear poised to make gains in midterm elections next month.

{mosads}”They may skate in this election. They may get away with all this money they’ve put in to convince everybody if you’ve got a ‘D’ behind your name you’re a terrible person,” Clinton said, according to The Palm Beach Post.

“But it’s not good for America. What’s good for America is when we sit down across the table, look at each other, treat each other with respect like we’ve got good sense and try to come up with a decision that will work for everybody,” Clinton added.

Clinton, who was campaigning for Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Fla.), also noted President Obama’s sinking poll numbers, saying that Republicans were trying to use them against Democrats.

“Because the president’s approval rating’s down a little bit, every Republican is trying to put him on the ballot instead of Patrick Murphy or fill-in-the-blank,” Clinton said.

Clinton also said the economy has rebounded, but that “people don’t feel it yet.”

Polls show that Murphy has a comfortable lead over his Republican opponent, Carl Domino.

Clinton is campaigning for several Democratic lawmakers in Florida throughout the day.

Clinton noted it was his wife Hillary’s 67th birthday, but told the crowd of more than 500 that he got an “excused absence” from his wife and would join her later.

Although she has not announced a decision, the former secretary of State is expected to be the Democratic front-runner in the 2016 presidential elections.

“We know he’s not running for president. … But maybe he knows somebody,” Murphy joked when introducing Clinton.
