Perdue eyes Agriculture, Armed Services panels
Georgia Senator-elect David Perdue (R) said Wednesday morning he hopes to serve on a pair of the same committees as the senator he’s replacing.
{mosads}”I’ve talked to a couple senators up there, I’d love to be on the Agriculture Committee and also the Armed Services Committee because both of those are very important committees to the state of Georgia,” he said on “Fox & Friends” Wednesday morning.
Retiring Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), whose seat Perdue will occupy, currently serves on both committees.
Perdue won outright in his race against charity executive Michelle Nunn, avoiding a runoff that would not have taken place until January. The race was not as close as many had expected: Perdue got 53 percent of the vote to Nunn’s 45.1 percent.
Though Perdue was an early favorite against Nunn, the race appeared to tighten down the stretch. Perdue’s background as a business executive had long been a cornerstone of his platform, but voters did not respond well when a deposition became public in which Perdue said he spent “most of my career” outsourcing.
Perdue on Wednesday acknowledged the difficulties that, at times, had plagued his campaign.
“We lost a little traction midway in the general election, to be candid, but we got up on TV again, got our message going,” he said, “and once that message kept resonating out there, people responded to it.”
