RNC chief: Democratic sweep is ‘never going to happen again’

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus said early Wednesday that the GOP has more work ahead, as it looks to 2016.

“I would say where we’re at is kind of like when my wife asks me about a project at home and says, How you doing? And I say, well you know I’m 80 percent done, and I’ve got 80 percent to go,” Priebus said on MSNBC, one day after Republicans trounced Democrats in the midterm elections.

{mosads}”I think that it’s really important for our leaders in the legislature set forward now real, achievable goals that are simple, that we can define for the American people,” Priebus said, adding that type of strategy was lacking in 2012.

The RNC chairman offered similar remarks on Fox News, vowing a Democratic sweep of the GOP is “never going to happen again.”

“The Republicans in the states — [Scott] Walker, [Rick] Snyder, [Bruce] Rauner — they were accepted. Their policies were embraced by the same voters that rejected Democrats,” Priebus said on Fox, referencing Republican gubernatorial victories in Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois.

Regarding the seven seats the GOP netted to win control of the Senate on Tuesday, Priebus pointed to ObamaCare and President Obama’s unpopularity as integral to Republican victories.

“ObamaCare put all of these races in play to begin with. That was the starter. And Obama made everything worse … by saying that his policies were on the ballot,” he said on Fox.

Priebus encouraged GOP lawmakers to focus on simple goals “that can be immediately achieved,” such as passing a budget, which Obama would not need to approve.
