Reports: ISIS leader wounded in airstrike
U.S.-led airstrikes have wounded the chief commander of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), according to a report by The Associated Press.
Iraqi officials said that ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was among those hit by airstrikes, which were launched early Saturday against nearly a dozen vehicles carrying ISIS officials.
U.S. military officials confirmed the attack Saturday but have not said whether al-Baghdadi had been hit. The strikes took place along the country’s western border.
Al Arabiya News Channel, an Iraqi outlet, reported that the leader of the extremist militant group was “critically wounded.” Officials interviewed by the AP could not confirm the extent of his injuries.
