Harry Reid’s birthday wish: Campaign cash
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is raising money for a reelection bid, despite lingering questions about whether he will seek another term in 2016.
His wife asked supporters in an email Tuesday to donate to his campaign.
{mosads}”I have a lot of experience picking the perfect gift for his birthday on December 2nd. I know a way that you can make this birthday extra special,” the email from Landra Reid said, according to the Las Vegas Sun.
Reid turned 75 on Tuesday. His age, and the heavy losses that Senate Democrats suffered in the midterm elections, have stirred speculation about whether he would run again for the seat he has held since 1986.
Reid has insisted he will run again.
“Sen. Reid will be leader regardless of the outcome of the election,” Reid spokesman Adam Jentleson told The Hill in October.
Reid has already been elected leader of Senate Democrats, as they prepare to move into the minority in January.
His reelection fight is expected to be difficult. Reid has just over $1.5 million in cash on hand, according to Federal Election Commission records; Republicans are trying to recruit Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval (R) to run against him.
