Clinton beating Christie by 11 points in NJ

New Jersey voters, by a 13-percentage-point margin, think Hillary Clinton (D) would make a better president than their governor, Chris Christie (R), according to a new Quinnipiac poll

{mosads}Christie is seen as a likely 2016 presidential contender and has made frequent trips to the early nominating states of Iowa and New Hampshire. But the poll finds that in New Jersey, 53 percent of voters say he would not be a good president, compared to 40 percent who says he would. Christie does win the question among Republicans, 70 percent to 21 percent.

Christie has faced some troubles in his home state over the now-infamous closure of lanes leading to the George Washington Bridge, and over the state’s finances, which are shaky enough that a gas tax hike is being considered.

Clinton, the Democratic front-runner, beats Christie at this early stage in the state by a margin of 50 percent to 39 percent.

Clinton has a favorability rating of 58 percent, with 35 percent negative. Christie, by contrast, has a higher negative than positive rating, at 47 percent to 45 percent.

Clinton has widened her lead over Christie over time. In early 2013, before the bridge scandal, Clinton led by 4 percentage points. In August of this year, the lead was up to 8 percentage points, in October it was 10 percentage points, and in the latest poll, it is 11 percentage points.
