Clinton named most admired woman
Hillary Clinton has been named the most admired woman in the world for the 13th straight year in a Gallup poll of Americans released Monday.
The results are an indication of how long the former secretary of State has been admired in the public sphere, as she heads toward a likely presidential campaign.
{mosads}In addition to being the most admired for the last 13 years, Clinton also has held the title for 17 of the last 18 years, stretching back to her time as first lady. Her streak was interrupted only by first lady Laura Bush in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
Clinton has been named most admired in the Gallup poll more times than anyone else. She beat Eleanor Roosevelt by six victories.
In this year’s survey, 12 percent of adults name Clinton as the most admired woman, beating Oprah Winfrey, who is in second place at 8 percent. Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani activist, follows with 5 percent and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has 4 percent.
On the men’s side, President Obama is most admired with 19 percent. Gallup points out that the incumbent president almost always wins on the male side. The president has won in all but 12 of the 68 years the question has been asked.
Following Obama are Pope Francis at 6 percent and former President Bill Clinton at 3 percent.
Breaking the results down by party, Clinton moves up to 20 percent among Democrats, compared to 3 percent for liberal champion Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). Clinton still gets 5 percent of Republicans, below Rice’s 9 percent.
And Obama gets 8 percent of Republicans, tied for first with Pope Francis.
