Jeb leads with young Latino Republicans

Young Latino Republicans prefer or are leaning towards former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) over the party’s other possible presidential candidates, a new poll finds.

Nineteen percent of Latino Republicans polled by Fusion said that they would choose Bush over other candidates with former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney out of the race.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) both trailed Bush, garnering 11 percent support from young Latino Republicans.

Bush’s wife, Columba, is Latina, and he supports immigration reform. His likely campaign would come at a time when Republicans are trying to reach out to new voting blocs, including minority voters.

The party is looking to reach out to Latinos in particular, since they are a growing demographic group in the United States.

Christie was the favorite among young African-American Republicans. Twenty-four percent chose him over other candidates. Seven percent prefered Paul and Bush.

The poll had a total sample of 1,000 people between 18 and 34. It had a margin of error of 3.1 percent and was conducted between January 6-11.
