Walker: I’m not worried about ‘peaking’ too soon
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R), a possible 2016 presidential candidate, said Thursday he wasn’t concerned he might be “peaking” too early.
“It’s ironic to think about peaking in anything when I’m not even a candidate for anything yet,” he told reporters, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
{mosads}”We know it’s a long way off. Should I choose to get in the race, we’re going to do what I’ve done in Wisconsin, which is to hone in on grassroots efforts, to be in for the long haul, not just for a week or two worth of buzz on anything. People see me here; I think I’m not a flash in the pan when it comes to being governor,” he said.
Walker has seen speculation over his 2016 prospects intensify after he gave a speech at an Iowa conservative event that was well-received by conservative activists.
He has also made several high-profile hires for a political committee that is seen as a precursor to a campaign organization. On Thursday, they announced that they had brought on Gregg Keller and Gary Marx, two operatives with deep ties to the conservative movement.
He has long made tenacity a part of his political brand. He fought back a recall attempt in 2012, after progressives in the state took issue with his battles with public-sector unions. He was reelected in 2014.
