Monday: Iran resolution
The Senate will take up a resolution Monday on Americans being held in Iran.
The resolution, spearheaded by Sen. James Risch (R-Idaho), calls for Iran to release Saeed Abedini, Amir Hekmati and Jason Rezaian, the three Americans currently being held in the country, as well as cooperation on finding Robert Levinson, who vanished in Iran in 2007.
{mosads}The resolution comes after the Senate overwhelmingly passed legislation last week that will allow them to review and vote on a final deal on Iran’s nuclear program. Senators had hoped to include an amendment on the American hostages as part of that legislation, but votes on amendments were effectively blocked after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) filed cloture to end debate on the Iran proposal.
The Senate is expected to convene at 3 p.m .for leader remarks and morning business. They’ll move to the Iran resolution at 5 p.m., with a vote expected around 5:30 p.m
Meanwhile, the House is not in session on Monday.
