O’Malley teases 2016 launch on Snapchat

Aides to former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley’s on Tuesday released details of his expected presidential campaign launch later this month.

O’Malley will make his announcement on the morning of May 30 in Baltimore’s Federal Hill Park, overlooking the city’s Inner Harbor and downtown corridor, his campaign announced on social media.

{mosads}The spot will offer those in attendance a panoramic view of the city, where O’Malley started his political career as a city councilman for eight years before becoming its mayor for another eight years, ending in 2007.

O’Malley has previously used the park for political events, including in 2010, when former President Bill Clinton rallied voters for O’Malley and other Democrats ahead of the governor’s reelection win.

O’Malley’s staff posted details of the launch on Twitter and in a Snapchat video that showed the streets of Baltimore from a moving car, including shots of the headquarters for Under Armour and the home stadium of the Baltimore Ravens.

For months, O’Malley has signaled that he would enter the race to challenge Hillary Clinton, the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is also in the race.

O’Malley has paid recent trips to the early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire. He also cut short a trip to Europe last month to be in Baltimore after riots erupted.

Should he launch a White House bid, O’Malley is expected to position himself up as a progressive alternative to Clinton.
