Palin: Trump making press go ‘ballistic’
Former Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) is praising Donald Trump after his entry into the presidential race, saying the media reaction shows he has the public’s attention.
“Mr. Trump should know he’s doing something right when the malcontents go ballistic in the press!” Palin wrote on her Facebook page on Wednesday.
“There is no denying Donald J. Trump’s accomplishments and drive to create opportunity for every willing American to succeed,” she added.
{mosads}“His own success is testament to the job-creating achievements made possible when one applies the courageous and tenacious pro-private sector precepts we need to fire up the economy.”
Trump formally launched his White House run on Tuesday from New York City’s Trump Tower.
The wealthy business mogul has made job creation a central point of his campaign. But comedians and many publications pounced at his boastful style and mocked his claims that he could win the race.
“I will be the greatest jobs president that God ever created, I tell you that,” Trump said on Tuesday morning.
“Our country needs a truly great leader, and we need a truly great leader now,” he added. “We need somebody who can take the brand of the United States and make it great again.”
Palin on Wednesday also praised the GOP’s large field of contenders for the Republican nomination, in contrast to the Democratic side, where Hillary Clinton is the likely nominee.
“Trump joins a competitive field of GOP candidates that will duke it out in the arena of ideas and track records, a field representing diverse achievements,” she wrote.
“This, in contrast with the pro-big government party’s practice of merely anointing a chosen one, thus robbing voters of healthy debates,” Palin added, referring to the Democrats.
Palin also laid out her criteria to ensure Republicans capture the White House.
“Key to conservatives’ victory is to do our own vetting of each candidate, focus on their ability to unleash America’s entrepreneurial spirit and dramatically shrink government in order to prioritize our nation’s security,” she said.
“That means we ignore the media’s participation in the liberals’ pantsuit politics of personal destruction,” Palin wrote, a swipe at Clinton and her trademark outfit.
“Then, on an even playing field, in 2016 we charge forward after the radical left hears America shout, ‘You’re fired!’” she added, a reference to Trump’s catchphrase from his “Apprentice” reality TV shows.
Trump previously flirted with a White House run in 2012 before ruling it out.
