Dem super-PAC fundraises off Trump
A political action committee for House Democrats is fundraising off Donald Trump’s Republican presidential campaign.
In an email blast to their supporters Wednesday, House Majority PAC highlighted Trump’s recent success in polls.
“Trump is now the leading candidate for president,” the fundraising appeal said. “If Trump gets to the White House, we’re in trouble.
{mosads}“This isn’t good,” it continued. “That’s why we need your help.”
House Majority PAC’s website says it is focused on “holding Republicans accountable and helping Democrats win seats in the House. “
The organization’s fundraising call cites a new poll released Tuesday from Suffolk University/USA TODAY that found Trump leading the GOP presidential field for the second time in as many weeks.
The national survey of self-identified Republican and Independent voters shows Trump in the lead with 17 percent.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Trump’s nearest rival, earned 14 percent support.
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Marco Rubio (Fla.) round out the top five with 8 percent, 6 percent and 5 percent, respectively.
Trump sparked outrage when he criticized Hispanic immigrants and Mexico during his presidential launch event last month.
“They’re sending people who have a lot of problems,” Trump said. “They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.
“And some, I assume, are good people,” he added.
Multiple businesses have severed their corporate ties with Trump over the remarks, including Macy’s, NASCAR, NBC and Univision.
Trump has repeatedly reiterated his stance on border security and illegal immigration since those comments.
He held a rally in Phoenix last weekend with noted immigration hardliner Sheriff Joe Arpaio that drew thousands of attendees, according to reports.
