Carson: Trump and I speak the same language

GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson said on Wednesday that fellow contender Donald Trump is getting more headlines, but their messages have a lot in common.

“The things we talk about are very similar,” Carson said in an interview with The Blaze.

“He gets a lot more media attention,” he added.

{mosads}The retired neurosurgeon argued on Wednesday that Trump is illustrating the value outsider presidential candidates provide to an election cycle. He added that enthusiasm for the billionaire’s campaign might eventually benefit other unorthodox Oval Office bids.

“As the political process plays out with the various debates, people will get a chance to see people like me and like Carly,” Carson said, referencing former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina. “They will begin to recognize that there are other people who have intelligence, initiative and aren’t part of the political class.”

Carson also proposed that frustration with traditional American politics might drive voters toward new styles of leadership next year.

“From what I’ve seen as I travel the country and see the size of the crowds and the enthusiasm of the crowds, I do believe this is a breakout year,” he said.

“That’s exactly what Thomas Jefferson said,” Carson said. “He said just before we turn into another form of government, the people would awaken and they would regain control.”

“I certainly hope this is it,” he added.

Carson also criticized Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s part in the political machine. He charged on Wednesday that the former secretary of State’s message is about maintaining the status quo.

“From what I’ve seen so far, she is a political animal with a very different value system than I have. I think that works well for me because if I am the nominee, the contrast between us will be very substantial,” he said.

“The people will not have to scratch their heads and try to figure out which way to go.”
