100K sign up to attend Sanders events
More than 100,000 people have signed up to attend grassroots gatherings being held across the country on Wednesday night in support of Sen. Bernie Sanders’s White House bid.
Volunteers for Sanders organized the 3,500 separate gatherings to build off the momentum from the huge crowds the Vermont Independent has attracted on the campaign trail.
{mosads}It’s unlikely that everyone who signed up will attend, but many could still tune in for the speech, and the large number of gatherings is further evidence that there is strong support for Sanders among grassroots liberals.
According to the Sanders campaign website, there are now 103,249 people who have signed up to attend one of the 3,520 events.
Sanders will address the gatherings via a live-stream on his website.
“This level of organizing and participation is completely unprecedented; nothing like this has ever existed at this early stage of a presidential campaign — period,” the Sanders campaign said in an email.
Volunteers are urging participants to flood social media with #FeelTheBern and #Bernie2016 hashtags, and directing the party hosts to get email addresses to build up a database of supporters.
Hillary Clinton remains the prohibitive favorite to win the Democratic presidential nomination.
Sanders, however, has emerged as her biggest threat. He has galvanized a lot of the energy on the left and made gains on Clinton in early-voting states such as Iowa and New Hampshire.
