Businessman Donald Trump, who has been atop polls in a crowded field of Republican presidential candidates, said on Wednesday that he would consider a female running mate.
{mosads}“Certainly, I would consider a woman as a running mate,” Trump told the Chicago Sun-Times’ Michael Sneed.
“I am all for the concept,” Trump continued, adding, “It would have to be the right person and I’m not going to go into who that would be right now.”
He also declined on CNN’s “The Lead” to name potential female choices for a Trump White House ticket, saying, “It would be a great honor to have a woman as a running mate.”
“Having a woman as a running mate is certainly a consideration. A very good consideration,” Trump told Sneed. “It would be something I would strongly consider.”
The celebrity real estate tycoon has fought back against accusations of sexism in recent days, stemming from a question during last week’s GOP debate, after which he said Fox News host Megyn Kelly had “blood coming out of her wherever” when she asked the question.
Trump has apparently since patched up his relationship with Fox News after several days of criticizing Kelly for her line of questioning, about his previous comments disparaging women, during last week’s GOP debate.
