Florida State president mocks Rubio’s ‘low standing’ in polls
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and the president of Florida State University are engaged in a little trash-talk after the Republican presidential candidate dissed the school.
{mosads}Rubio, who attended the University of Florida and the University of Miami School of Law, waded into the college football rivalry between Florida State and the University of Florida during a radio interview on Monday.
“Look, I don’t have anything against Florida State. I think there has to be a school where people that can’t get into [the University of] Florida can go to college,” Rubio said during the interview on Iowa’s KXNO.
Florida State University President John Thrasher fired back on Tuesday, taking a shot at Rubio’s education and pointing out his standing in polls for the Republican nomination.
“He’s a nice kid,” said Thrasher, who served with Rubio in the Florida Legislature and is one of eight former House speakers to endorse former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. “I’m sure he’s frustrated by his low standing in the polls, which I believe could be a reflection of where he got his education.”
Rubio, a Gators fan from Miami, took to Twitter on Tuesday to put the jabbing in context:
But we are still going to #BeatFSU
