Rubio: Trump is ‘touchy and insecure’
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is hitting back at Donald Trump, calling the GOP front-runner thin-skinned and ill-informed.
“He’s not that well-informed on the issues,” he told host Matt Jones on “Kentucky Sports Radio” Thursday afternoon. “He never really talks about issues and can’t have more than a 10-second sound bite on any key issue.
“He’s a very touchy and insecure guy so that’s how he reacts,” he added. “People can see through it.”
{mosads}Rubio responded after Trump targeted the senator’s congressional record and youth earlier Thursday.
“He’s got the worst voting record in the United States Senate,” Trump said on CNN’s “New Day.” “He’s never there, meaning he doesn’t work or he’s too lazy to go back and vote.”
“He shouldn’t even be running in this race, as far as I’m concerned,” he continued. “He’s a kid.”
Rubio said Trump is attacking him to distract voters from a poor showing in last week’s GOP presidential debate.
“He takes shots at everybody that gets anywhere close to him in terms of polls,” Rubio said. “Any time he hits a rough spot that’s what he does.
“He had a really bad debate performance last week,” he added. “He’s kind of been a little bit exposed over the last seven days.”
Rubio also hit Trump for not correcting a supporter at a recent rally who claimed that President Obama is a Muslim who was born abroad.
“It’s just a dumb thing to talk about,” he said of conspiracy theories that Obama was born overseas. “It’s never been an issue for me. All this other stuff is just stuff people say to get on the news.”
Trump has long questioned the president’s background, despite Obama releasing his Hawaii birth certificate in 2011.
The business mogul has recently been brushing off questions about the controversy.
