New pro-Kasich ads aim to ‘Put a Steak in Trump’

A super-PAC backing Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) for president released a new web ad Friday attacking Donald Trump, but it’s trying to strike a lighter tone after the front-runner has proved immune to previous volleys.

New Day for America, which can’t legally coordinate with Kasich’s official campaign, launched a new digital campaign and will air a separate TV ad against Trump in the first-in-the-nation primary state of New Hampshire on Monday — all of it attacking the real estate mogul’s steak business.

{mosads}The web video, titled “What’s At Steak,” starts with a news segment by CBS reporter Scott Pelley to announce a presidential address from the White House in the wake of a struggling U.S. economy.

The video then cuts to a commercial of Trump promoting his eponymous steaks, which were launched in 2007 and later discontinued. “When it comes to great steaks, I’ve just raised the stakes,” Trump said.

As the billionaire businessman lauds his brand, bad reviews flash at the bottom of the ad, describing the steaks as “tasteless and mealy” and saying “Costco are much better quality.”

The ad writes in text at the end, “Don’t have buyer’s remorse. The Steaks are too high in this election.”

The super-PAC also launched a new website, PutASteakInTrump.com, that features a game of the same name meant to resemble Pac-Man. The game is free, but players can donate $2 to receive a full version and get more lives.

“Donald Trump thinks picking our next President is a game,” New Day for America chief strategist Matt David said in a release. “This is a guy who was hawking overpriced steaks on infomercials not long ago. Now he wants to be our Commander in Chief, Leader of the Free World? It’s a scary joke, and the only one laughing is Hillary Clinton — all the way to the White House.”

Last month, New Day for America launched a $2.5 million ad campaign against Trump and continues to roll out new ads.

But Trump has brushed off Kasich and his allies’ attacks and maintains his strength in the polls even after his call for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States.

Trump leads the GOP field with 30.4 percent, according to the RealClearPolitics average of national polls. Kasich distantly trails the GOP front-runner, sitting in eighth place with 2.2 percent.
