Trump vs. Clinton? Dead heat, says new poll

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are statistically tied in the latest hypothetical match-up as the Republican front-runner escalates his attacks against the leading Democrat.

When 1000 likely voters nation-wide were asked who they would support if the presidential election were held today, 37 percent said Clinton while 36 percent said Trump, according to the Rasmussen Reports telephone survey.

{mosads}The poll’s margin of error is 3 percentage points, meaning Clinton and Trump are in a statistical dead heat.

The poll is consistent with another recent survey by CNN/ORC which had Trump and Clinton within the margin of error

But in an average of recent Clinton-Trump match-up polls, RealClearPolitics has Clinton leading Trump by 5.5 points

Trump has spent the past few days attacking former president Bill Clinton for his treatment of women, suggesting his wife has no right to call out Trump for sexism.

Polls have indicated that in a general election Clinton would have an easier time against Trump than she would against some other Republican candidates. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson have both beaten her in previous match-ups.
