Democratic presidential hopefuls Sen. Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton battled it out on Twitter on Wednesday over the former secretary of State’s progressive bona fides.
The exchange began when Sanders tweeted out a video of him speaking with reporters and one asks him if he thinks Clinton is a progressive.
“Some days, yes,” the Vermont senator responds. “Except when she announces that she is a proud moderate, and then I guess she is not a progressive.”
Clinton responded with a video of her own on Twitter that showed her at a rally touting her progressive achievements.
“It was kind of a low blow when Sen. Sanders said, in response to a question, ‘Well maybe she’s a progressive on some days,'” she said in the video.
Sanders then shot back with a chain of tweets that began with him saying, “You can be a moderate. You can be a progressive. But you cannot be a moderate and a progressive.”
The exchange came hours before the two are scheduled to appear at a CNN town hall in Derry, N.H. Their campaigns have agreed to three news ones, all of which will be sanctioned by the Democratic National Committee.
