Poll: Florida ‘looks like a blowout’ for Clinton

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton holds an overwhelming lead in Florida ahead of the state’s March 15 primary, according to a new poll released on Friday.

{mosads}The Quinnipiac University survey shows Clinton with 59 percent support in the Sunshine State, followed by Bernie Sanders, her sole remaining rival, with 33 percent support.

Clinton, who is vying to become the first female president, makes strong inroads among women in the state, carrying the demographic by a 69-34 percent margin.

“This has been a turbulent political year, but the Florida Democratic primary looks like a blow-out,” said Peter Brown, assistant director of the poll, adding that “Clinton would have to undergo a political meltdown of historic proportions to lose this contest.”

A Public Policy Polling poll released on Thursday found Clinton leading Sanders by a similar margin in the state, up by a 57 percent to 32 percent.

The Quinnipiac poll surveyed 476 likely Democratic primary voters from Feb. 21 to 24 and has a 4.5 percent margin of error.
