Dems: Trump’s rise forcing GOP through ‘stages of grief’
Democrats are needling Republicans as they watch businessman Donald Trump’s rise in the race to the presidential nomination, arguing the GOP is going through “stages of grief.”
“I think the Republican establishment is going through the stages of grief,” former CBS anchor Bob Schieffer says in a quote used at the beginning of a new video from the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
{mosads}The video goes on to portray the “five stages of grief explained by the GOP as they lose control of their party,” including denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.
Democrats use a spattering of clips from Trump’s GOP rivals, including Jeb Bush’s “please clap” moment to portray depression, and the Republican Party chairman’s vow to embrace the GOP nominee.
“As Trump continues to lead in the primary election, the GOP will never be the same,” reads text in the DNC video.
Trump is looking to add to his delegate count in five states holding elections on Tuesday, including important races in Ohio and Florida, while rivals hope to hold him below the necessary threshold to secure the nomination.
The businessman claimed Tuesday morning that “the biggest people” in the GOP have reached out to him to set up face-to-face meetings as he racks up delegates, though he declined to list names.
