New ad compares Sanders to FDR

The Bernie Sanders campaign is comparing the presidential candidate to Franklin D. Roosevelt in a new ad released just days before the New York primary.

{mosads}“Even when the deck is stacked, a New Yorker will find a way to break up big banks, create millions of jobs and rebuild America,” the narrator says over footage of the 32nd president, a New York native.

“Some say it can’t be done again,” the ad continues. “But another native son of New York is ready: Bernie. Rebuild the middle class, make Wall Street banks pay their fair share, give every child a chance.”

Sanders visited FDR’s grave and home Tuesday in New York, connecting his own fight against the “billionaire class” to the work of the author of the New Deal.

“I think there is a lot that we can learn today from Roosevelt’s life and courage, from his willingness to stand up to the most powerful special interests of his time — people he called the economic royalists, people I call the billionaire class today,” the Vermont senator said.

Both Sanders and Democratic rival Hillary Clinton have campaigned hard in New York ahead of the state’s critical primary Tuesday, though polls show Clinton with the advantage.

The former New York senator has a 14-point lead over Sanders, 53 percent to 39 percent, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls.
