Trump scoffs at Sanders meeting with Francis
Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump scoffed at Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders’s brief meeting with Pope Francis on Saturday, saying that the two could not have had a serious discussion.
{mosads}“Well I think five minutes is very short to have been talking about, as Bernie says, climate change and all of the other things he mentioned,” Trump said in an interview on “Fox and Friends” Saturday morning.
“Five minutes sounds like ‘try to get me in to see him so I don’t get myself embarrassed before I come back to New York.’”
Trump said such meetings don’t allow for much worthwhile discussion: “After you say hello, there’s no time left.”
The Vermont senator briefly met with the pontiff Saturday morning while attending a conference at the Vatican, despite a Church spokesman saying that there would not be a meeting between the two.
