Susana Martinez not interested in being Trump’s VP
New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez has no interest in being presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s running mate, the Weekly Standard reported Thursday.
{mosads}”The Governor has said repeatedly over the years that she isn’t interested in serving as Vice President. She appreciates that such attention puts New Mexico in the spotlight, but she is fully committed to serving the people of our state,” said Chris Sanchez, a spokesman for Martinez.
The New Mexico governor had been considered a potential pick to be Trump’s running mate. Many believed she would have been able to increase the business mogul’s low favorability ratings with women and Hispanics.
Martinez had previously backed Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) for president before he exited the race, and she has condemned Trump’s rhetoric on immigration.
A spokesman for Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), another some considered a possible vice presidential candidate, said Thursday he is also not interested in being Trump’s VP.
