Flynn: Trump will be a return to ‘American exceptionalism’

Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn said America will stop putting other countries first if Donald Trump is elected president in a Monday night speech that repeatedly touted “American exceptionalism.”

{mosads}Speaking after Melania Trump made her prime-time remarks, Flynn addressed a rapidly dwindling crowd in Cleveland, as those in attendance packed up and promptly began streaming for the exits following the potential first lady’s address.

That did not deter Flynn, who was once considered a potential vice presidential pick, from touting Donald Trump, the GOP’s presumptive presidential nominee, and attacking presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. 

“I stand with you as a citizen, a veteran, a patriot, but more important, as an American to tell you that the destructive pattern of putting the interests of other nations ahead of our own will end when Donald Trump is president,” Flynn said.

“Our new American century does not risk its future on political correctness and senseless hyperbole.

“The time is now to recognize our obligation we have to the world — an obligation to lead the world with unwavering integrity, renewed strength and unapologetic resolve.”

Flynn, who was on Trump’s shortlist for potential running mates, also attacked President Obama’s national security approach and called him “weak” and “spineless.” He said Clinton would represent more of the same of the last eight years, and at one point got the crowd to chant, “Lock her up!”

“From this day forward, we must stand, tougher and stronger together, with an unrelenting goal to not draw red lines and then retreat … and to never be satisfied with reckless rhetoric from an Obama clone like Hillary Clinton,” Flynn said.
